The End Has Come.

Huzzah! for graduating High School!

My friend Natalia and I at our school's Senior Banquet... before we turned into hot, sweaty messes from all the dancing.

This past Friday was the last day of school for me, and our class celebrated by having a semi-formal dance- DJ and all!

I had a fantastic time and danced away with a bunch of people I probably won't see again. It was a bittersweet thing.

That being said, the music was fantastic. They played a bunch of music I thought was lovely- including a rad remix of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" and another of Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks". Hooray!

Look at those beautiful creases I've got in my hair! Classy, no? :P

The end of the night was absolutely touching, though. Cheesy, but touching. When the lights came on, the DJ began playing Fun's "We Are Young", and everyone gathered in a huge circle, holding hands and singing along.

As per, I have my back to the camera, at the bottom right corner. But, hey... at least I'm in the picture!

There are people in this class I've grown up with since I was in Kindergarten. It's going to be difficult not seeing them anymore, but we're all going on to either University, the work force, or the military. I'm going to miss these people.

So anyway, that's all for now. Tomorrow, June 1st, is the graduation ceremony, which I could not be more excited for. I'll post about that when I get the chance.

Also, I plan on showing what I wore to my senior banquet, along with the dress I'm wearing for graduation. I'll do that as soon as I get the chance.

That's all for now! x

Outfit of the Day... of sorts.

Hey everyone!

I thought I'd tell you about the outfit I wore today, as I quite liked it and wanted to share.

Drum roll please....

(Ahem, please excuse the terrible camera quality. I only have my webcam to work with at the moment.)

TA-DA!

This sheer, long-sleeved button up is from Forever 21, and I believe it was only $15. The undershirt was about $3-4, and I bought it at Charlotte Russe. My gold medallion necklace is superrrr old, and I'm not going to pretend like I remember where it's from.

These high-waisted shorts were originally pants that my sister bought for me from a thirft store. I didn't like the bottoms too much, because they were very flared... and I'm not a fan of flared. Because of this, I went a little berserk and cut them into shorts. These were the result, and I absolutely adore them now. I threw on a pair of black tights underneath, and the gold thumb ring I wear everyday, as it was my mom's wedding band.

I also did a video for this outfit!  check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZs6K_OjoxA&feature=relmfu

Right. That's all for now, lovelies!

The Grand Promenade! Or, for the common folk, just Prom.

Hey everyone!
So I thought I'd post about something that's a huge deal for many people my age; the grand event held at the end of each school year that we refer to as Prom.

This was an enormously important event for all of my friends and classmates, but honestly... I wasn't too excited for it. The theme, which was chosen by the underclassmen, was quite cheesy and overdone. (Really, Juniors? A Night of Elegance? That's not even a real theme!) I knew the DJ was going to be terrible, as I'd witnessed his... er, talent once before. The location was difficult to find and much too small. It seemed as if all the hype for my senior prom was undeserved, in my opinion.

Tack on the fact that one ticket was sixty dollars, and I'm sold.

Long story short, I didn't see the point in attending an event I knew I wouldn't enjoy. So I didn't go.

...Wait, what?!

Yes. My presence was sorely missed at my school's Senior Prom. And it's not a decision I regret! The event was on Saturday, and while I was at home watching a fabulous array of horror films, most of my schoolmates were either lost while trying to find their way to the event, or having a horrible time listening to the DJ that had music more appropriate for middle school. (I'm not exaggerating, by the way. You should have heard the complaints people gave me at school today.)

Granted, that's not the only reason I avoided attending the event. I'm a a bit of a penny-pincher, and sixty dollars didn't seem a reasonable price for something so mediocre. I've also never understood why girls spend upwards of $200 dollars on a dress they'll only wear once in their lives. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for quality clothing and whatnot, but I just don't get why anyone would spend so much on a piece that's going to collect dust afterwards.

Long story short, I didn't attend. And I found out today that it was the right decision to stay home. The best comment I heard about it all day was that it was "better than lying at home and doing nothing". (I beg to differ, Vicky, but I quite enjoyed doing nothing.)

I'm sure most Proms going on were fantastic, and I'm sure most of you reading this are shaking your heads at me thinking, "This girl is mad." Well, maybe I am. But that's not always a terrible thing. Anyway, I made sure that I wasn't missing out on getting to party one last time with all my friends before school is over. There's another event held at our school known as the Senior Banquet, and it's basically a slightly less uptight version of Prom. It's held in the school cafeteria, so it's obviously more casual, but the general idea is the same.

Students arrive dolled up and lovely-looking, food and drink is provided in an adorable arrangement, and a much better DJ gives us great music to dance the night away with.

Senior Banquet's ticket is $10, by the way. So, obviously, I went with the cheaper ticket.

The banquet is next Friday, and I'm calling it "Mini-Prom". I already have my dress and am super excited for it, as it's held right after the last day of High School. Way to celebrate, right?!

I'll have another post up discussing what occurs then, but for now, I'll leave you with a picture of just one possible downside to Prom:

You see! Prom is dangerous, everyone!

I'm kidding. Honestly, I think I'm just a little bitter because afterward all of my friends went cosmic bowling without me. Sigh.

Okay, that is all. Apologies if this was a huge waste of your time, but thanks for reading, Lovelies!

Ciao for now! x

Electra Heart: A Definite YAY.

Oh, Marina... Y U SO GREAT?!

Marina and the Diamonds released her second studio album, Electra Heart, on the 27th of April. I absolutely had to get my hands on it, seeing as her first album was so fantastic. (The Family Jewels)

Let me tell you all something: I was not disappointed. Electra Heart has character and sass and emotion all rolled into one fantastic album. It seems as if almost every track on it is centered on the whole theme of selfishness and imperfection within oneself. Marina has the unique talent of being able to attract mainstream audiences while still steering clear of mindless lyrics.

Each track is intelligent and truthful in it's own right, while still remaining witty and entertaining. Dear god... you guys! I'm not kidding when I tell you this: I got the album the day it came out, and I've yet to stop listening to it. It's constantly on loop in my MP3, and I don't think it'll be replaced anytime soon.

I don't know why, but the first song, Bubblegum Bitch, is not my personal favorite. It's quite catchy and upbeat, but it's just not my usual cup of tea. Surprisingly, though, its cutthroat lyrics have drawn me in recently, and it's fast growing on me.

It's quite hard to choose some of the more outstanding tracks on Electra Heart, but I've managed to pick and choose a few of my favorites:

*Primadonna. I guarantee you that while listening to it, you'll feel you have the right to demand all of your wishes be met and that everyone treat you like a queen. It validates being a bitch.

*Lies. Unlike most of the songs on this album, Lies is all about vulnerability and heartbreak. It's the perfect background music for a night of sobs over ex-boyfriends and buckets of ice-cream.

*Power and Control. "You may be good-looking, but you're not a piece of art." I tell ya, this song is smart and super catchy at the same time. That's rare, and that's absolutely wonderful.

Again, these are just a few of the songs on the album. If I could, I'd give a lengthy review of each track and go through the many possible themes behind each one. Why? Because I'm a weirdo  and enjoy doing things like that.

I won't torture you all, though. Just trust me when I tell you that Electra Heart could not be a bigger success. If you haven't already bought it, I highly stress that you do so. Now.

Right, that's all at the moment. Thank you for reading, lovelies.

Ciao for now! x

Get to know me?

Hello all! (Or none... either or. Either or is fine.)

Right, so I'm currently obsessed with beauty blogs and the like, and I came across a fantastic "Get to know me"  one on Lips So Facto. (www.lipssofacto.com)
She's honestly such a great inspiration. I've started experimenting a bit more with beauty products because of her, and it's worked out great so far! Read her blog if you haven't yet!

Well, back to my point... there was "Get to know me" post that I quite liked, and I thought I'd give it a go, so here goes!

Vital Stats:
Name: Alejandra (though I'm rarely called it.)
Nicknames: Allie, Ale (yes, like the alcoholic beverage), Ah-leh, Yay...
Birthday: August 18th
Place of Birth: Delano, a tiny town in the valley of California. Middle of NOWHERE, I tell ya.
Zodiac sign: Leo
Occupation: Student

Appearance:
Hair color: A pale brown. Considering dying it a darker tone, though.
Hair length: Almost mid-back, I'd say. Though I've a bit of an undercut.
Eye color: Light brown.
Best feature: But there are so many to choose from. Jokes! Ermmm, I'd have to say my lips. Though I hate the teeth behind them.
Braces: I desperately need them. As insinuated above.
Piercings: Standard lobes, and an industrial on my left ear. I also had a lip piercing when I was younger, but that was a huge mistake. I now have a permanent scar as a reminder of my stupidity.
Tattoos: None yet.
Righty of Lefty: Lefty.

Elena (on the right) and myself this past December.
Firsts:
Best friend: A girl by the name of Elena. We were in second grade, and though we distanced throughout much of school, we managed to rekindle our friendship during our Junior year, and we're close friends once more! (Even attending the same Uni in the fall!)
Award: Dunno why I remember this so clearly, but I received an award in Elementary that the school called a "Knight Reader" (School mascot was a knight). I basically got it for reading plenty and being an exquisite nerd. Proudest moment of my life.
Sport: Considering the fact that I trip on something almost regularly, I'd say my coordination isn't on par with what it takes to be an athlete. But I quite like running... even if I'm not good at it.
Real Holiday: I went to visit Guatemala when I was about ten. Going again in June, and I'm super excited for that!
Concert: Oh, dear lord... I think it was a free parking lot concert of the Plain White T's, or something similar.

Favorites
Film: There are too many! Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Amelie, The Breakfast Club, The Lion King, Zombieland, Donnie Darko... Believe me, I could go on forever.
TV Show: I don't watch much TV, but I do watch reruns of American Dad and Family Guy. I'm such an intellectual...
Color: Grey, Blue, Gold, Black... meh.
Song: Oh, come on! This question is impossible! Alright, alright... it might be between U2's A Sort of Homecoming or Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's Home. Currently.
Restaurant: This will change as soon as I escape the bubble I've lived in my entire life, but I'd have to say Shogun Palace, in Bakersfield. They've decent sushi, considering it's located in the Valley.
Store: Forever 21, for the variety and for the price. (Quality? Not so much.) Suggestions for other stores, anyone?
Book: Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Or No Country For Old Men. McCarthy is fantastic.
Magazine: Vanity Fair.
Shoes: I've these dingy pair of brown boots that need to have the heel fixed. Love them to death, but haven't worn them in so long because of the damn heel. Sigh.

Currently...
Feeling: Insomniac-like. It's 2:30 in the morning!
Single or Taken: Single
Eating: No, thank you. Not now, anyway.
Listening to: Metronomy- The Look
Thinking about: How I should be sleeping, as I've school tomorrow. Or, err, today. Eeeeeek!
Watching: Nothing, really. Though I was watching infomercials about a very high-tech blender earlier. Fascinating, I know.
Wearing: Simply adorable pajamas. I state this sarcastically... they're quite hideous.

Future:
Want Children: Someday, far in the future.
Want to be married: Perhaps, if the right stud strolls along. *Insert winky face here.
Careers in mind: Ideally, I'd like to become a psychologist/writer. But, realistically, something in either Human Resources or Social Services would be nice. Obviously, I've yet to officially decide.
Where do you want to live: I've been drawn to the UK ever since I was a child, and I plan on moving to Bristol when I'm finished with Uni here.

Do you believe in:
God: Yes.
Miracles: You could say that I do... in a sense.
Love at first sight: Erm, not really. Attraction at first sight fits the bill better. I think it takes time to get to know someone before you fall in love. Quite a bit of time, actually.
Ghosts: I'm very skeptical, but maybe.
Aliens: It's a bit arrogant to think that the universe is this huge, empty space and that we're the only living things in it, isn't it? I do think other life forms exist, but I don't think about that much. It's not my area of expertise, anyway.
Soul Mates: That term is worthy of an eye-roll, but yes. In a sense, anyway. I believe some people are meant to be together, merely because they're compatible in a way that can't be mimicked.
Heaven: I know I do, but I've no idea why it's so difficult to convince myself of this.
Hell: See Heaven.
Kissing on the first date: Why wouldn't I?
Yourself: For the most part.

Ta-da! That's it, hope you enjoyed getting to know me a bit! I'll be updating this soon. Everyone have a lovely day! x

In the beginning...

Hello everyone!
So this is my blog... and I'm stating facts. Please excuse my awkward tendencies! I promise I'll get better with this as time goes on.

I'm a seventeen year old girl from California that's passionate about writing, music and beauty products. I am in no way an expert in any of these fields, but I do like to believe I'm not completely ignorant either. Therefore, I thought I'd start a little blog sharing my opinion on various and random thoughts. Little Things, if you will.

So that's all for now, please feel free to comment and give me advice on how to better my blog. I take constructive criticism quite well!

Ciao for now! x
